Pomorye. Village Letnaya Zolotitsa.
Sandy dunes, called by people "cats", surround vast territory, filled with ice stones and overgrown with lichen, yellow coastal spit, pine forest, further off two brooks, beautiful river with small islands and along it settled down a village, called Zolotitsa due to the river and Letnaya - due to the seashore.
Extraordinary beautiful places, lake-land with ship-pines, which Peter I forbade to fell. Rich places - there are a lot of fish here: salmon, trout, lake whitefish, pike, perch, there is no end to this list. From time immemorial coast dwellers made a living out of fishing. For example they caught herring in a special hiding places. But they rarely went hunting. There were no many wild animals on this seashore. However very often huge, tarred, odorous barrels with seal fat stayed on a berth.
There are plenty of opinions where from the name "Zolotitsa" have appeared. Local inhabitants stick to two legends: the first is that the village is called so due to the river, and the river in its turn is called so due to the fish, which come here to spawn, Dark tint of water changes salmons silver skin into golden and golden in Russian sounds as "Zolotoiy". The second legend also blends with the river. Unusual sand which spills with golden grains in the shoal-water make the river glitter with gold. Therefore again "Zolotitsa"
From times immemorial people have settled on the White Sea seashore. There are many names of places with chud origin, for example - Pushpahta - small village situated in 18 km from Zolotitsa. This ancient people called chud were later on squeezed out by people from Zaonezhye witch were later called Pomors.
In ancient times pomor differed two categories of landscape: the sea and the mountain. They called "mountain" the high seashore and all the territory farther from sea. Till nowadays old residents in Zolotitsa have this notion.
In general inhabitants of Pomorye (Pomors) were curious and suspicious. According to prominent literary man of the middle 19th century, S.V.Maksimov, who went traveling to the North, all the dwellers of the whole village came to receive traveler and questioned him who he was and where from. And thus Pomors more resembled Russian women than men, who were rather short-spoken than curious.
The Pomors of Zolotitsa, the same as all other Pomors, had their own word for each thing: bahiltsiy (boots), nyasha (silt), kechkar (sand), zalyoshiniy (puddle) and many others. Each of these words had its own, not similar to any other meaning. And up till nowadays these words are in use in villages of Letniy seacoast.
Soon Letnaya Zolotitsa will celebrate its 600h anniversary, just this age have the documents in which this village was first mentioned. From these sources we can learn that even Ivan the Terrible knew about Zolotitsa. During many centuries Letnaya Zolotitsa was the center of Letnaya volost. Here were built resin mills and salt mills. Zolotitsa's dwellers took part in foundation of Solovetskiy fortifications ad monasteries.
There are also unusual and even mystic places in Zolotitsa. For example spited stone, the so-called "stone, which part", unkind stone.
On the right shore of Pavlovo lake there are untouched places. Though they situate near the village, only in 2 km, but people do not go there. They say there goblin is living. He confuses people so that they can't leave the forest.
On the seashore there were four pines standing, then there were only three of them, now only one is left. Local inhabitants say that on that place there were pagan idols in times immemorial and still before that - heathen temple. We have no confirmations to these facts but local dwellers do believe them.
And certainly the most unusual phenomenon on the Zolotista seashore are icy, overgrown with lichen, huge boulders, which just covered rather fair distance between sea and local airport. "The Path of Hyperborey" - is the place with unique energy, even air there is quite different, and sound islands among the stones bear the sweetest berries - voronika.
Nowadays one of the sights in these places appears to be echo-hotel, which was built just recently. "Wildlife Discovery Club» is occupied with preservation of fish, protection of baby seals, protection of the river and seacoast. The club has interesting, long going plans, connected with preservation of nature and bringing it to people. One can reach Zolotitsa only by air or by sea; therefore the absence of road transport keeps these places primordial. It allows to leave a person alone with nature and to draw the closer to one another. It opens a little the secret of polar nights, whisper of waves and silence of ancient boulders.
