On the island there are many interesting Zhizhgin biological objects of observation. For example, seals. At any time you can see from the lighthouse seals sunbathing on the coastal rocks, on ludah and corgi. Seals always keep near the island and you can count of a few dozen to two hundred individuals. Some days just on the Churnavolotskoy plait in the water there are up to 100 seals. You can watch the seals rest, hunt (for example, make "pot", surrounding the cluster of fish) swim up to the boats and the white whale, showing curiosity.
In the absence of stormy weather there are always white whales near the island Zhizhgin, showing an interesting hunting behavior. According to scientists at the same time you can observe up to 20 individuals.
In addition, on the island Zhizhgin there are large colonies of birds, in particular, the largest in Russia, arctic tern colony (13 - 15 000 individuals). Here, hundreds seagulls are nesting , and also- eiders, sandpipers and a few pairs of skuas. During this time, you can always watch fights between different species of birds, some of which are ruining their nests in searching of food, while others protect their crop.
The most spectacular, which can be seen almost every day – arrivalof white-tailed eagles from the Onega Peninsula to hunt. First of all, it's big and beautiful eagles, and secondly, hundreds of birds around them and try to banish from the island. All this can be clearly seen from the lighthouse.
Also the vegetation of the island is very interesting , both land and coast (algae). On the island Zhizhgin, as well as on the island Anzer, you can observe a variety of plant communities from grassland to tundra. Here you can see protected species (orchids, globe flower),and here are also interesting phonological features characteristic of island vegetation.
History of the island Zhizhgin is rich also like a history of the Solovetsky Islands. Here Neolithic site was discovered (West Island)probably , there were Sami religious buildings (mazes and other places of worship in the south and west of the island). As Solovetsky Islands, Zhizhgin occupied a strategic position, blocking the entrance to Onega gulf .Here was a watch-tower, from which at the end of the XVIII century.customs were tracking commercial vessels , and earlier, apparently the watchmen were following the approaches of Swedish vessels . At the end of the XVIII century, here was also the pilotage service for vessels through the Zhizhginskaya Salma and coastal waters of East Solovetskaya Salma. On the east bank there are remains of boulder structures.
Existing building a lighthouse was built in 1841 and we know information about the lighthouse, their dynasties. Gravestone of first Isakovski lighthouse inspector lies near the lighthouse.
In the XX century , the island was a place of travel of the Gulag, then the villageof the agar plant (plant building near the pier), military unit.
